If you have ever driven the Tahoe Boulevard around Lake Tahoe you may have encountered this peculiar building. At the very least, this building caught my eye. It almost seems to defy gravity, two folded triangles draped over a central core which really is the only element anchoring it to the ground. Upon a little bit of searching, I found out this used to be an old gas station. This makes a lot more since as the long roof overhangs must have been protecting gas pumps from the harsh Tahoe winters.
Built in the 60's, this was a type of eye-catching architect that was meant to draw in customers. It was a way of using an beautiful architecture aesthetic that was also very much of a functional element.
Thanks for reading! Let us know if you have seen any other cool mid-century gas stations that are still standing today.
